Progress Update / FYI

The ad hoc committee has now accomplished:

*Getting a recreation center listed among the goals of the Park and Recreation Department for 2008

*Created an awareness of the need for a recreation center/outdoor pool

*Submitted a survey of residents for the township's website (Media commission is looking at this).

*Stressed that the Gold's Gym site and swimming pool should be open space or recreation as expressed in the Township's Open Space Plan

*Organized resistance to the rezoning of 431 W. Valley Forge Rd. to R55

Nov. 1 - At the Board of Supervisors meeting we requested that the township survey the residents. We provided a survey to the Board to get things going.

FYI:
Park and Rec. disclosed to Colonial Village Civic Assn. a plan to build a swimming pool and tennis courts.on the PECO ground on Warner Rd. that the township purchased for 1.5 million. A private individual would lease the ground and be responsible for construction. This idea does not seem to be acceptable to Colonial Village. They (Colonial Village) offered support towards the reconstruction of an aquatic facility and recreation center on the Gold's Gym property which is in the heart of the township. This site has always been for recreation. The other sites slated for open space to be purchased by the township are too small for a rec center, according to township manager, Ron Wagemann.

We have also recently found out, that other municipalities got the right of way for the trail from PECO but UM bought the develpment rights under the wires on South Warner Rd.
